King Louis II owned not only what is undoubtedly the most famous castle on earth, Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Castle, but also the lesser known royal hunting castle in Schachen, which served as a refuge for his mountain retreats above Garmisch-Partenkirchen and can only be reached on foot (a 3,5 hour hike).
