Granitz Hunting Lodge
The hunting lodge is located on the 106m high Tempelberg, in the wide-ranging beech groves of the Granitz region. During the heyday of Classicism (1837 to 1851), Wilhelm Malte I, Prince and Lord of Putbus, had the hunting lodge built by the renowned master builder from Berlin, Johann Gottfried Steinmeier. The Prince of Putbus used the lodge mainly as a guest house. In 1900 already the royal family opened the building for viewing to the ticket-paying public. Following restoration work on the building, it is today the most popular excursion destination on the island of Rügen.
