Excursions in the Basel Region
Basel not only has numerous parks that invite one to while away a few relaxing hours, but also boasts a truly remarkable zoological garden, known as the ‚Zolli’, where more than 600 animals are housed. The newly born lion cub is currently a special attraction.
Excursions to the idyllic surrounding areas are also very rewarding, in particular Merian Park in Brüglingen or Wenken Park in Riehen, which is a very lovely region only 15 minutes’ drive outside the city limits. Or enjoy a boat trip on the Rhine aboard the ‘Weissen Flotte’ or white fleet, as you get to know the area from a totally different perspective.
Or travel back in time to the period when the Romans inhabited this region. In Augst, 20 Roman sites can be visited including the best preserved Roman Theater north of the Alps, an intact Roman villa and the pet park. The ideal backdrop for various open-air events such as the big Roman Festival held in the summer.
